今後、間違いなく成長するロボット分野は産業用ロボットである。日本ロボット工業会、NEDOや経済産業省がときどき発表しているロボット市場の見込みの図がある。「今後のロボットの普及を加味したロボットの将来市場予測」というものだ。しばしば講演などでも紹介されているので、見かけたことがある人も多いと思う。あれを見ると、既存の製造業用の産業用ロボットがじりじりと右肩あがりで伸びていく上に、生活分野や公共分野のロボットがドーンと成長するという図になっている。では、本当にそうなっているのか、あるいは、なりそうなのか。実際には、ドーンと成長するとされている部分は、いわゆる「絵に描いた餅」で、願望のようなものでしかない。下記の資料を見比べてみるといい。これらの資料を時代の変遷を追って眺めてみると、この願望を込めた市場予測が、虚構とまでは言わないが、ほとんどあてにならないことがよくわかる。逆に、こういった図をもとにロボットには将来市場性があるという人がいたら、あまりあてにならないと思ったほうが良い。この市場予測がずれているのは、あくまで、「ロボットがこれまでにない市場に普及する」という前提のもとに行われた予測だからだ。「普及する」という予測をもとに行われた予測、つまり屋上屋を重ねた予測をもとに、ロボット普及の市場性を語ることに何の意味があるだろうか。いっぽう、地道に成長しているのが産業用ロボットの世界である。産業用ロボットの世界市場動向について詳しく知りたい方は下記を見ると良い。こちらについては実際の市場規模の動向調査だ。ただしこちらでも市場予測が一部混じっているので、そこは注意したほうが良い。センサーやモーターの性能、制御や駆動のための計算機やアルゴリズムの高速化に伴って、産業用ロボット全体の性能は、今後もっともっと向上するだけでなく、活用分野も大幅に増大する可能性がある。産業用ロボットはこれまで主に自動車産業に使われていた。塗装や溶接ロボットが活躍する姿を一度は見たことがあるだろう。そして産業用ロボットは液晶ディスプレイやエレクトロニクス産業での活用を経て、いま、物流全般や、食品・医薬品・化粧品産業でも使われはじめている。ここで先に産業用ロボットの世界の流れをまとめておく。これまでの産業用ロボットは、主にモノを作る「製造」分野で用いられていた。それが、「組み立て」や、モノを運ぶ「搬送」にまで広がりつつあるのだ。そして、適用される産業分野自体も広がっている。自動車のような重たいものを扱う産業から、より軽いものを大量・高速に扱う分野へと広がっている。さらに、ロボット自体の小型軽量化と、一部のロボットは安全柵が不要になったことにより、大規模な工場での活用から、これまではロボットを設置するようなスペースがなかった中小企業での小規模な工場での活用も始まっている、というのが現状だ。人が混在する環境で一緒に働くロボットは「協働ロボット」と呼ばれている。ファナック協働ロボット「CR-35iA」インターフェックスジャパン2016 ）【次ページ】食品・医薬品・化粧品産業に広がるロボット
